Oturehua is a small village nestled into Rough Ridge. Originally a thriving gold mining town today we attract writers, readers and creative folk along with our rural farming families.
Gilchrists Store is a working general store and a treasure trove of ‘old’ .. overflowing with antique memorabilia .. worth a visit. Hayes Engineering Works is a historic settlement .. a homestead, engineering factory and cafe.

St Bathans

The small village of St Bathans is the remains of historic gold mining in the district. Today the blue lake and lovely old Vulcan Hotel are the attractions for locals and visitors alike. A short 10 - 15 minute drive from 74 on Lockhart.

Falls Dam

Falls Dam was constructed in 1931 to provide irrigation to make farming in this landscape
viable. Accessed by a gravel road on the way to St Bathans, the drive and scenery beautifully
showcase our raw and remote landscapes .. It is a popular fishing spot for locals.
